FLYOVER

ACCESSIBLE BOARD GAME

Flyover™ is an accessible board game designed for the blind, focusing on dexterity. It primarily utilizes tactile and audio sensory coordination for 1v1 contests. The core mechanic involves building a balanced bridge structure using building blocks diagonally across two points before your opponent. Various game modes have been developed to add complexity. The game helps develop cognition and visualize geometry for both fully and partially blind children.

Board games are a specific type of tabletop game that often include pieces or counters that are moved on a board according to a certain set of rules. Flyover utilizes basic building block components and a specially designed board platform for its gameplay. Exploration of tactile media was key in the execution of this project.

Prototype evolution

Prototype evolution

After taking due consideration of the observations made from the previous prototypes, the following changes were made:

> Bigger set of blocks were used. This meant that the board size increased from a 30cm square to a 42cm square.

> Edges were curved out to remove any and all sharp edges from the board.

> The board required a certain height, since there was a cavity in the middle where blocks can get collected/stored. The height also meant the blocks made a louder sound when they fall there.

> Starting points were designed physically and visually differently to help players distinguish between them easily, even by touch.
